13 Easy Halloween Food Ideas For Kids
There’s no need to rely on sugar-laden treats to get your kids excited about Halloween. Try these fun Halloween food ideas for kids!

I’ve always loved Halloween, especially Halloween parties!
As a kid, I remember going to a Halloween party where we had to touch different foods while blindfolded. There were eyeballs (grapes), brains (Jell-O), teeth (corn kernels), and guts (spaghetti). We had no idea what we were touching, which made everything seem extra creepy. It was disgusting and hilarious at the same time!
I’ve always enjoyed coming up with my own Halloween party food ideas, too. Whether they’re cute and silly or creepy and gross, I love finding creative ways to make ordinary foods fit the occasion.
What I don’t love quite as much is all the sugar that tends to come with Halloween.
Luckily, Halloween food doesn’t have to revolve around candy corn and other sugary treats. With a little creativity, you can turn everyday foods into fun Halloween snacks, meals, and even healthier desserts. And you don’t have to spend hours preparing them, either!
One of the easiest ways to do that is with Halloween-themed cookie cutters. You can use them to cut sandwiches, cheese, and even homemade chicken nuggets into fun shapes. That’s how I made these Halloween chicken nuggets for my son!

Of course, cookie cutters are just the beginning! Whether you prefer cute and silly Halloween snacks or something a little creepier, there are plenty of ways to get creative with everyday foods.

1. Cute Monster Foods
While monsters are supposed to be scary, movies like Monsters Inc. have changed our perception of them. Instead, they can be funny and cute. Younger kids especially love monster inspired treats. Cute monsters can be made by adding “eyes” to pretty much any food using toothpicks. Check out these cute monster hamburgers and the silly looking monsters made from apple slices, nut butter, sunflower seeds, and strawberries.

2. Mummies
Mummies are another fun Halloween theme, and you can turn all sorts of everyday foods into them!
For a quick, no-cook idea, wrap bananas, apples, or other fruits in strips of gauze or paper. Add a pair of googly eyes to complete the look.
For edible mummies, use thin strips of cheese to create bandages on mini pizzas, sandwiches, or hamburgers. You can also wrap meatballs in wide pasta ribbons to make mummy-themed spaghetti and meatballs. Add some olive eyes to bring your mummies to life!
Another easy idea is to wrap hot dogs or sausages in strips of dough before baking.

3 . Frankenstein foods
Frankenstein’s monster is another Halloween classic that’s fun to recreate with food. And since he’s green, it’s a great opportunity to sneak some veggies into your Halloween snacks!
Avocado and guacamole are perfect for making his green face. Spread some mashed avocado on toast or sandwiches, then use black olives and strips of red bell pepper to add his hair, eyes, mouth, and other facial features.
You can also use spinach wraps to make Frankenstein-themed sandwiches, like the one in the Halloween bento boxes pictured above.

4. Spiders and spiderwebs
Spiders and spiderwebs are perfect for adding a creepy touch to Halloween food, and you can make them with all sorts of everyday ingredients.
One of the easiest ways to make edible spiders is with black olives. Cut one olive in half for the body and slice another into thin strips for the legs. Arrange them on mini pizzas, sandwiches, or other savory snacks. You can see an example on one of the Halloween mini pizzas pictured above!
For a fun Halloween dinner, turn a hamburger patty into a giant spider! Use strips of cucumber for the legs and slices of cucumber and black olives for the eyes. Serve it alongside spaghetti with pesto and a few little olive bugs for an extra creepy touch.
You can also make spiderwebs on soups, dips, or sauces. For my roasted pumpkin soup, I used cream to create a web on the surface. Just pipe circles of cream onto the soup, then drag a toothpick through them to make the spiderweb pattern.

5. Gummy worms and leeches
Spiders aren’t the only creepy crawlies that make an appearance at Halloween! Gummy worms are always popular, but you can make them even creepier by turning them into gummy leeches.
Making your own gummy worms is surprisingly easy, even without special candy molds. Plus, you can choose your ingredients and avoid some of the artificial colors and flavors found in store-bought gummies.

6. Jack-o-lantern fruits and veggies
Pumpkins may be the most iconic symbol of Halloween, but they’re not the only fruits and vegetables you can turn into jack-o’-lanterns!
Bell peppers are especially fun to carve, and you can fill them with dips, pasta, rice, or other foods for a festive Halloween meal. You can even use smaller peppers to make individual serving bowls.
Pineapples also make surprisingly fun jack-o’-lanterns! Carve spooky faces into them, or just decorate the outside with paper cutouts. You can do the same with oranges and other fruits.
For decorations, place battery-operated LED candles inside hollowed-out fruits or vegetables to make their carved faces glow.

7. Halloween Charcuterie Boards
Halloween charcuterie boards are a fun way to serve something savory alongside all the usual Halloween sweets. You can keep things cute with pumpkin- and ghost-shaped cheeses, or make something a little creepier!
For simple decorations, try cutting slices of cheese into Halloween shapes with cookie cutters. You can also use silicone molds to make fun, three-dimensional cheese shapes.
If you really want to impress your guests, try making a creepy cheese ball shaped like a severed hand or face! Cover it with slices of salami or prosciutto, then surround it with crackers, cured meats, cheeses, fruits, and other snacks.
Finish everything off with a few plastic spiders or other Halloween decorations, and you’ve got a spooky party platter!

8. Witches’ fingers and other body parts
If you’re going for a creepier Halloween theme, foods that look like severed fingers, bones, and other body parts are always fun additions to the table!
Witches’ finger cookies are a Halloween classic. You can make them with your favorite cookie dough (my grain-free pumpkin spice biscotti is one option) and use almonds for the fingernails. Press them into the dough before baking, or attach them afterward with a little melted white chocolate.
Pretzel bones are another easy idea, and for something really creepy, try making a severed hand out of cheese and cured meats, like the one in the Halloween charcuterie board above.

9. Ketchup “Blood”
Sometimes the easiest Halloween food ideas are the most effective! A little ketchup can make an ordinary meal look surprisingly gruesome.
Try adding a splash of ketchup to burgers, hot dogs, or other savory foods to make them look like they’re bleeding. For an extra creepy touch, stick a small plastic knife into the food and let the ketchup ooze out around it.
You can even serve ketchup in a small bowl labeled “blood” so guests can add their own!
For a homemade option, try my Heinz-style ketchup or fermented ketchup recipes. Both are great alternatives to store-bought ketchup.

10. Eyeballs
Eyeballs are another Halloween favorite, and there are so many fun ways to make edible versions!
For savory dishes, try using mozzarella balls with sliced olives for pupils. You can add them to salads, pizzas, or even creepy Halloween faces, like my prosciutto face.
For something sweet, I couldn’t resist making my own gummy eyeballs! They’re made with coconut milk, fruit juice, and blueberries, giving them a creepy appearance without artificial food coloring. They’re surprisingly easy to make, too!

11. Creepy skinless face
Want to really creep out your Halloween party guests? Try serving a skinless face covered in cured meats! It’s a surprisingly easy way to turn an ordinary antipasto platter into something straight out of a horror movie.
You can make a decorative version by covering a face-shaped mask (or a face shape made from paper and foil) with slices of prosciutto, jamón serrano, or other thinly sliced deli meats. Add olives for the eyes, using a little cream cheese to help hold them in place.
For an entirely edible version, shape a cheese ball into a face and cover it with the cured meats instead. It’s a creepy appetizer that guests can actually dig into!
Surround your creation with crackers, cheeses, and other savory snacks for a gruesome Halloween party platter.

12. Tombstone Cakes and Graveyard Desserts
Turn an ordinary cake or dessert into a spooky Halloween graveyard with a few simple decorations!
Start with your favorite chocolate cake, cheesecake, pudding, or even homemade chocolate mousse. Sprinkle crushed chocolate cookies over the top to look like dirt, then add cookie tombstones to create a miniature graveyard.
For an extra creepy touch, scatter a few gummy worms, candy bones, or other Halloween decorations around the tombstones. You can even write “RIP” on cookies with melted chocolate, icing, or food coloring markers.
This works just as well with individual pudding or mousse cups as it does with a full-sized cake, making it an easy idea to adapt for Halloween parties.

13. Pumpkin Bowls and Witch’s Cauldrons
Small pumpkins make adorable serving bowls for Halloween! Simply cut off the tops, scoop out the seeds, and fill them with your favorite party foods.
Use them to serve dips, snacks, or even individual portions of soup, stew, or rice dishes. If you’re serving something hot, you can roast the hollowed-out pumpkins first to soften the flesh and make the bowls edible, too.
For a fun Halloween twist, turn your pumpkin bowls into little witch’s cauldrons! Fill them with something bubbling and delicious, and add a pretzel broomstick for decoration.

You don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen or load up on candy to make Halloween fun. Sometimes all it takes is a cookie cutter, a few olives, or a little creativity to turn everyday foods into something spooky!
Whether you’re planning a Halloween party or just making a special treat for your family, I hope these ideas inspire you to have a little fun with your food.
