Cut the (room temperature) tallow into one-inch cubes.
Add the tallow to a medium-large mixing bowl.
Carefully use an electric beater to begin to whip the tallow, breaking up all the chunks.
Pour in the liquid oil and the essential oils or vitamin E, if you are using them, and stir them into the tallow.
Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip the tallow for several minutes until it becomes fluffy and light.
When you're happy with the consistency, transfer the whipped tallow balm to a clean storage container.
Store it in a cool, dry place.

Notes
The ratio of tallow to liquid oil can be adjusted to suit your preference for the finished consistency. Adding more oil will soften the balm. Adding less liquid oil, or eliminating it completely, will make a harder, more solid balm. This may be preferable in hotter climates.Any liquid oil can be used. Popular choices are extra virgin olive oil or sunflower oil. Jojoba oil has a long shelf life and would also be a great option.Cosmetic-grade vitamin E is an antioxidant that can prolong the shelf life of this product if used at the correct percentage. (Ideally, 0.5% of the finished recipe by weight)Some essential oils may cause irritation and others, especially citrus oils, may cause photosensitivity, allowing you to burn more easily in sunlight. Be careful to keep the percentage used low and choose your oils accordingly.
Storage
This tallow body butter will melt if stored in too warm a location. If it melts, it can still be used as a solid tallow balm, it just won't have the light, silky texture obtained through the whipping process.
